Artist Profile
LIM KOK TEONG, born in Georgetown, Penang, in 1972, he graduated with a Diploma in Fine Art from Malaysian Institute of Art in 1994 majoring in painting.
Instead of eagerly participating in group show organized by commercial gallery, Kok Teong had chosen to have his debut solo exhibition Bewitching the people, here comes the Penanggal: A Painting Showcase by Lim Kok Teong at Rumah Air Panas, an independent art space run by art enthusiasts, where he was one of the founding members. In 2007, a limited edition and self-funded pamphlet of his small drawings and sketches was published.
Kok Teong is a very productive artist and his favourite medium is ink painting. By using the traditional tools and materials, such as brush, ink and rice paper, he managed to create a very personalized and imaginative universe. In February 2015, he was invited to show in Fergana Art Space's inaugural exhibition in Penang, almost a decade since his last appearance in public showing.
Currently, Kok Teong works and lives in the heritage island city at the north of the Malay Peninsula, seeking tranquility while looking forward to the next point of departure.
